Von Joshua--1971

With outfield names of Willie Crawford,
Willie Davis, Billy Buckner, Jimmy Wynn
and Manny Mota, Von Joshua had a
difficult time finding playing time for
manager Walter Alston in the early 1970’
s.  Maybe because Joshua spent time
working on his bunting, as demonstrated
in his ’71 cardboard; though in reality he
would only lay down on sacrifice bunt in
six seasons with the Dodgers.

Claimed off waivers by the San
Francisco Giants prior to the 1975
campaign and handed consistent playing
time, Joshua thrived in the black and
orange, hitting .318, good enough for
seventh best in the National League that
season.

Unfortunately the speedy fly catcher
would settle in as a .260-hitter during the
remainder of his career. He would finish .
273 batting average in 10 big league
seasons.
