Geroge Gervin--1980
Before the days of refrigeration,
icemen used to deliver blocks of the
frozen water to homes to keep a
families' food safe from spoiling in
ice boxes.

During the 1970s and 1980s,
George Gervin, aka. “The Iceman”,
delivered everything but a
championship to San Antonio.
However, Gervin, a 12-time All-Star,
led the NBA in scoring during four
seasons and generally carried the
Spurs on his back to the playoffs
each year.

During the days of high socks,
short shorts and the 3-to-make-2
free throws; Gervin was one cool
customer in the clutch.

Editor’s Note: Gervin averaged
25.1 ppg. over his 14-season
playing career that saw the one-
time ABA player, move to the NBA,
before ultimately reaching the
Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996.
