Bruce Ruffin--1988
Late June appears to be good to the
Ruffin name.

It was June 25, 1986 and after 241
wins over 15 seasons, the Phillies
released future Hall of Famer Steve
Carlton in favor of 22-year-old Bruce
Ruffin.

The lefty went 9-4, 2.46 over the
remainder of 1986 as the Phils
finished second in the NL East to the
Mets. It was the start of a 12-year
career that saw Ruffin go 60-82, 4.16
for the Phillies, Brewers and Rockies.

Fast forward 23 years and Chance
Ruffin, the son of Bruce, helped the
Texas Longhorns get to the final
days of the 2009 College World
Series, just like his dear old dad did
for the CWS Champion Longhorns in
1983.

Yes, the late days of June are good
for the Ruffins.
